Methods, explained

Research comes with a lot of acronyms. Here’s what they mean.

FGD
Focus group discussion: a moderated conversation with a small group of target consumers.
IDI
In-depth interview: a one-to-one conversation that goes deep on a single person’s view.
CAPI
Computer-assisted personal interviewing: face-to-face surveys recorded on a tablet or phone.
CATI
Computer-assisted telephone interviewing: surveys run by phone.
CAWI
Computer-assisted web interviewing: surveys people complete online.
PAPI
Paper-and-pencil interviewing, with answers entered online afterwards.
